The Aston Oscars
Started by Bidgley Power Foundation in 2013 this has now transformed into a biannual event.
Bidgley Power Foundation organised the 1st Aston Oscars Awards on the 28th of September 2013 at Broadway School. This was a special awards night organised for people from Aston and the surrounding areas. Local people were nominated and voted for up to 21 categories of awards including; best neighbour, best carer, community champion, community group, senior citizen etc. In all well over 800 votes were cast at voting boxes placed in local shops throughout Aston.
A gala awards evening took place with nearly 250 people attending, entertainment was provided by famous local artists Khiza and Soni-J, a fashion show presented by Zarissa and a buffet meal. The winners of the Aston Oscars received their awards from a number of guest presenters including Nikki Sinclair MEP for the West Midlands, Jason Wouhra from East End Foods PLC, Ravi Masih from Aston Villa FC and Jawaid Akhtar from the Birmingham Resilience Team.
Renamed and expanded as the Heart of Birmingham Oscars from 2014 onwards in partnership with Hob CSan. This covered a wide portion of the City expanding from Aston to include Ladywood and Perry Barr districts covering over three hundred thousand local people.
Bidgley continued to organise and run these events from 2014 from the Moor Land Pavilion on the Lucas Sports and social site, which had the normal Music & Entertainment and Buffet meal. The winning recipients receiving their awards from Councillors, Members of the Business Community and Steve Hollingworth Head of Sports, Leisure and Events at Birmingham City Council.
It was reborn as a biannual event and in 2016 and ran successfully at the Badshad Palace Hall, Banqueting and Conference Centre Parry Barr, with live entertainment and local dignitaries handing out the awards to all the community wished honoured for volunteering and helping the residents of the area’s that we all represent.

The 2018 event will be run at the end of the year to celebrate our area and those that make a difference to others or improve a lot of the community as a whole though volunteering.
