Akbar’s Story

Raised and living in one of the most deprived and challenging areas in the country Akbar had very few options but through volunteering with Bidgley Power Foundation he found a way to channel his energies in a positive and constructive manner by helping others.

Volunteering helped focus his life and improved his social skills, he now works full time and has impressed many in the community with his commitment to his area which helped him gain employment and gave him life chooses he would not otherwise have had.

Akbar continues to volunteer and help his community and by so doing is inspiring other youths to get involved and choose a difference path in life. Every person who follows in his footsteps can and will make a positive change for themselves and others, this he has proven.

Akbar took part in the Erasmus Programme which is a European Union student exchange programme established in 1987 and allows for students through education, training and youth sports to travel to other EU countries.

Akbar through volunteering with the Charity and the Erasmus programme travelled to France Germany and Italy and this journey helped him build the confidence he needed to move forward in life that matters and this renewed confidence helped him passed his driving test.

Akbar’s journey is ongoing and he intends to improve his education, he continues to volunteer and in the near future hopes to start youth mentoring.
